Invitation to online discussion: What kind of operating environment do you envision for Aalto University?

During 2010, Aalto University will make decisions related to its campuses. We will begin preparing for the decision-making with an online discussion to which all members of the Aalto community, including the university’s partners, are invited. We will consider what facilities and operating environments best support studying, working and the fulfillment of strategic objectives at the university. What kinds of spaces should the university offer to foster world-class research, teaching and interaction?

There are no preconceived ideas as to whether the future university should consist of a single unified area or several campuses. At the heart of the discussion will be your views as to what is most important in the future operating environment. Studying and working also involve health and welfare services, catering, transport solutions and accommodation; these are some of the services that can be considered as a part of our future environment.

The discussion will be open until July 31st. The outcomes will be reported in autumn 2010. Decision will be made in the end of year 2010.

Are interested in getting to Finnish students?

Are you interested in the Finnish culture? Would you like to learn a bit of the language of the country you are studying in? Would you be happy to teach your native language or tell about your own culture to the Finnish fellow students of yours?

Student Union’s educational committee is here to give you an amazing chance: Each One Teach One program is here! Each One Teach One matches Finnish students with foreign students who are interested in each others’ cultures. We’ll try to find a pair for every person wanting to participate in the program. The pairs will then get to arrange meetings according to their own schedules – whether they decide to go for a coffee or do something really Finnish

It doesn’t matter if your answer isn’t “yes” to every single question above – it’s enough that you are eager to get to know our Finnish students!

Signing up for the program starts right away and lasts until Wednesday, 24 of February 2010. Please send an e-mail to miina.tikkanen@student.hse.fi, and let us know your name, your contact information, your age and the country you come from / the languages you speak and would be happy to teach.

Greetings,

Miina & Johanna
